(I love this one!)
(I happen to love this picture of Ben)
On our drive back we had to take some pictures to document the destruction from Hurricane Irene.
We heard that Irene didn't hard OBX as much as we'd feared, but we were wrong. It did not hurt Nags Head, but it did get stuck around the other islands.
We saw houses with wood siding torn off, sidewalks and step bridges collapsed, and water parks and mini golf courses that had to be shut down.
People have been cleaning out their flooded homes for the last two months, and so much debris still remains at the sides of the road that trucks can't pick it all up quick enough. We even drove past two makeshift trash dumps.
Sad.
Goodbye, Outer Banks....
I can't wait to dig my toes in that amazing sand again next year!
What are you pointing to in that picture? Sounds like a fun little trip. We all know the real reason for the trip was the 100 year celebration of the Wright brothers :) Thanks for the history... I never knew some of those things. It's nice you guys live so close to the ocean, that you can go there and back in a weekend trip.
ReplyDeletePointing at one of the many shipwrecks along the coast there. This one's boiler pipe shows at low tide...wished it was warm enough to snorkle out there!
ReplyDeleteYou should definitely blow up and frame picture two, it's beautiful! It would also be cool if you had a multi-picture frame with pictures of all the lighthouses you guys have visited (I would include picture 2 or 5 in that if it were me... just sayin' :) )
ReplyDeleteLove your pictures!! Still super envious of your trip. Glad you had such a great time!
ReplyDeletethose are some great photos!!
